Community Platforms and Chosen Charities in Pageantry

The Scott Canner Young Investigator Grant and Tour de Cure

A major part of my pageant life has been associated with Charities and being involved with Community Platforms. My fundraising platform is The Scott Canner Young Investigator Grant through Tour de Cure, a group of fabulous people who ride around Australia raising funds for Cancer Research.

There is the major Signature Tour as well as smaller tours. On route, Tour give out $10,000 to many community services in towns, and also help to educate kids in schools with the "Be Fit Be Healthy Be Happy" programme in cancer awareness.

I first met this wonderful group as their Sports Therapist and Body Mechanic on the inaugural bike ride from Brisbane to Sydney in 2007. Every year, the Tour starts, and this year 2019, its on 3 May Sydney to Geelong Victoria.

Since the first Tour in 2007, $48 million dollars has been raised for research into Cancer.

Scotty my son, was a member of Tour de Cure before he died from cancer, so the grant was set up through Tour de Cure in Scottys name, going towards the young cancer researchers to help fund their research to find a cure.

Some of the recipients of the grant of $125,000.00 are:

Dr Sarah Hayes Kolling Institute Uni of Sydney - Lung Cancer

Dr Jens Bunt Queensland Brain Institute - Glioblastoma Cancer

Dr Chuck Bailey and Dr John Rasko - The Centenary Institute

Dr Jessica Duarte The Olivia Newton John Cancer Research and Wellness Centre Melbourne -Utilizing an antibody-profiling tool to detect cancers at an early stage

I am a Life Time Queen with Global United Pageants in Minneapolis USA, and their platform is in Children s Cancer, and I had the opportunity to visit Ronald McDonald House during my time there.

Pageants are a great building block for all entrants to become involved in a well needed support network into finding cures for diseases and supporting community platforms during tough times.

On my website www.robbiecanner.com.au there is link to Tour de Cure, or visit their website www.tourdecure.com.au to donate, ride or find further information on how you can help to cure a devastating disease.
